Reason’s article “The Survey of Evidence for Slow Aging in Nematode Worms” published in Fight Aging!, talks about Hormesis.

Hormesis is the name given to the process by which lower degrees of stress and cellular damage can result in long-term health benefits. Cells react to molecular damage with increased repair and maintenance activities, and when this damage occurs in a transient and minimal manner, additional efforts to maintain function offset any harmful effects.
