Steven A. Garan is the Director of Bioinformatics at CREA and serves on its Advisory Board. Dr. Garan is also a research scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, an institution that aims to solve the most urgent and profound scientific problems facing humanity.

Dr. Garan was also director of the Center for Aging Research and is one of the leading scientists in the field of aging research.

Dr. Garan’s numerous publications include articles on systems biology, the effects of calorie restriction on the hypothalamus of the mouse, and on the Automated Microscope Imaging System (AIMS).

Dr. Garan is best known for the invention of the word “Phenomics”, which was defined in an abstract entitled “Phenomics: a new direction for the study of neuroendocrine aging”. It was published in the journal Experimental Gerontology.
